Don't Keep Those Non-Existent Eggs In One Basket

As an online web-writer, it's hard enough to make a living. So, in the event one of the sites you write for goes belly-up, make sure you're keeping yourself spread around and not just getting screwed over by just one site.

I recommend variety. Each site has its own style of not paying. And, it keeps things interesting. You might find it best to write for one site which seems to hold their religious/political beliefs against you, while another site has a staff of functionally-illiterate editors preventing you from being published.

(Extra points if they behave like it's all worked out between you two and they chortle along about how much they care about you on Facebook and publicly – just to be extra cruel. The extra points are theirs by the way. You get nothing. To hell with you. Fuck you, in fact.)

But that's not enough variety, I say. To keep yourself jumping and collecting cans – perhaps even getting to the point a “Will work for food” franchise starts sounding like a raise, you need a site with vague, arbitrary rules and an unidentifiable staff telling you “as long as yous don't break rule, you gets pays.”

Remember, you need multiple reasons why you can't send in child support or support your own smoking habit, as some way to numb the pain. This way the ambivalence and frustration makes death seem like the only relief. Then, admin can profit from your work long after you're dead, since, while you're alive, mere lack and want isn't enough satisfaction for the ranchers controlling the cattle.

An Open Letter to Allegheny Township Police Assistant Chief L.J. Berg Re-post, Share, Please

Dear Chief L.J. Berg,

I've just finished reading a story about your ham-fisted, authoritarian response to a fellow American who exercised his right to protest and to speak freely. I want you to know, you are a disgusting example of abuse of power and do not deserve to wear the shiny badge or the costume which you do.

For those just now learning about this, here's the story: www.wpxi.com/news/news/local/man-facing-charges-hanging-american-flag-upside-do/nfx67/

You arrested one Joshua Brubaker for doing exactly what he is guaranteed to do under our nation's founding documents – protesting. While you and all others who lack the brain capacity to grasp the concept of free speech accuse Brubaker of “insulting” the flag, what you failed to understand is, the “desecration” of the American flag is precisely what those freedoms allow.

Here, let me give you the direct quote from our nation's founding documents: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/bill_of_rights_transcript.html

Chief Berg, we have you – on record – saying, “I was offended by it when I first saw it. I had an individual stop here at the station, a female, who was in the military and she was very offended by it.” Do you mind showing me where the Bill of Rights of our nation protect you, or anyone for that matter, from being “offended?”

You won't be able to find it, Chief Berg. Your sensitivities and lack of understanding are not protected. However, Mr. Brubaker's rights to speak, are: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_speech_in_the_United_States And, for your violation of his right to freely express himself, I can only hope you're forced to find another line of work where you get to impose your small-minded, petty authoritarianism on others and not on the citizens of your town.

Perhaps the local mall needs some additional security. You have no business wearing your costume or carrying a gun. A mall will support you in your clean-up efforts to control what others do, say or post onto a wall. Out in the real world, though, you have no business trying to control the words of others – only criminal behavior. Beyond this, you really need to keep your meat hooks off of others.

Actually, you just need to quit law enforcement. You're doing it wrong.

Why I want Officer Christopher Webb of the New Mexico State Police fired, now

COMMENTARY | According to a lawsuit reported on the Smoking Gun, Officer Christopher Webb, a member of New Mexico State Police's Motor Transportation Police Division, tasered a10-year-old during career day at his school, for saying he didn't want to wash the officer's patrol car. But that's not the only reason I want him fired.

And I also don't just want him fired for his arrogance and his abuse of power in trying to intimidate a little kid, for having given an honest answer by the very act of pointing a taser and saying, “Let me show you what happens to people who do not listen to the police,” as if he didn't like the kid not acting like a good, boot-licking servant, like all of his dumb kid friends. It's not just his being an armed abuser on a power-trip that has me wanting him fired.

As well, I don't just want Officer Christopher Webb fired from his position of public trust for failing to offer medical assistance to the unconscious child, instead choosing to take the boy to the restroom to “clean him up,” which causes me a very strong suspicion Officer Christopher Webb was more than likely hoping to revive the little guy, in hopes of keeping himself out of trouble.

No, those aren't the only reasons I want Officer Hogg – I mean Officer Chris Webb fired. I also want him fired because in his report to his superiors, he lied through his nasty, gritty, fecal-matter-covered teeth about the incident, as also revealed by the Smoking Gun website. And if an armed idiot like Officer Christopher Webb - member of New Mexico State Police's Motor Transportation Police Division - will lie in a situation involving the health and safety of an innocent 10-year-old kid, he is undeserving of the trust placed upon him by the public, when dealing with the less desirable members of society. How many other situations has he chosen to tell lies in during his career?

I'm not one of these people who feels that no cop is a good cop. I've had my ass pulled out of the fire – so to speak – on more than one occasion by a couple of the finest, bravest men I've ever met, which we all know as a “police officer.” I have family members and friends working in law enforcement in a variety of capacities. I don't hold a grudge against police, in general. In the right situations, they're the first people I call. I'm like many millions of other Americans, in that I trust the average law enforcement officer with my life.

But Officer Christopher Webb, of the Motor Transportation Police Division under the New Mexico State Police does not deserve our trust, for every reason listed above – one atop the other - especially his willingness to lie in order to cover his own ass. That's truly not acceptable.
